DESCRIPTION

All members of the WMGA, with a current USGA established handicap, are eligible to participate in the Championship Tournament. If you do not have a current handicap please see the Golf Shop to have one established. Participation in the Championship tournament is voluntary. The Championship tournament will be played by “match play” rules. Handicaps will be 100 percent (100%) of the difference between the player’s handicaps. This means that if one player has a 15 handicap and the other player is a 10 handicap, the player with the 15 handicap will be given 5 strokes, one stroke on each of the five (5) most difficult holes.Players must sign up by no later than May 16. Please do not sign up for the tournament if you are planning to be away for an extended period of time. Sign up sheets will be available in the pro shop on Wednesday and just outside of the pro shop on other days. If more than 16, 32, 64, or 128 players sign up then a “qualifying” round will be played on Wednesday, May 19, concurrent with the weekly tournament. . The qualifying round will be stroke play. If more then 144 players sign up for the Wednesday tournament those players shut out of the championship tournament will play on Wednesday afternoon. If a qualifying round is not necessary then match play will begin on Wednesday May 19 and those players in the championship tournament will not participate in the weekly tournament. Full prize money for the weekly tournament will not be paid unless there is a minimum of 80 players participating in the weekly game(s). Prizes will be prorated based on the 80 player minimum as long as there are at least 20 players in the scheduled weekly tournament.Once the tournament begins the pro shop will match the players according to their handicaps. Matches can be played on any day that you and your opponent can arrange. It is the player’s responsibility to set up their tee times. They must play together, share the same golf cart and present the signed score card to the pro shop. Matches should be arranged in a timely manner because we can not continue to the next round of play until all results from the prior matches are submitted. Matches should be scheduled within less than a two week time frame. All matches shall be played to conclusion. If after 18 holes are completed the match is tied a sudden death playoff will be played on the next hole. If strokes were given the first time that the hole was played, then it will be given again to the player with the higher handicap. There will be four or eight brackets depending on the number of players with each bracket having two winners. When the tournament is completed there will be one WMGA champion with seven follow up winners. Prizes will be awarded according to the place of the eight winners.
